🔼 Storm Troopers. The strong play from the nonconference season continued in the BIG EAST opener for the Villanova women’s soccer team on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Higgins Soccer Complex.
Two goals in each half and more lockdown defense led the way for the ‘Cats to secure a 2-0 victory over visiting St. John’s.
The shutout win brings Villanova to seven clean sheets on the year and keeps the team unbeaten for a ninth consecutive game, matching the same unblemished start to the year seen by the 2023 squad.
🔼 Coming Together. Villanova Athletics is gearing up for 1842 Day, Villanova University's 10th annual day of giving, on September 29. Wildcats around the world will have the opportunity to support their favorite varsity programs while helping teams compete in the inaugural Wildcat Challenge, a fundraising competition with $100,000 in prize money up for grabs.
The Wildcat Challenge will reward varsity programs for performance in several categories including unique donor participation, first-time donor engagement, average gift size, alumni support, and year-over-year growth. The top overall program will earn the Varsity Cup along with a $25,000 prize for its sport operating fund.
🔼 Friday Fun. Before rain took over the weekend, the Villanova field hockey squad lit up the scoreboard en route to its first BIG EAST win of the year in a 4-1 defeat of Temple on Friday afternoon.
Four different 'Cats hit the score board in the win with Ava Borkowski starting the action with her ninth goal of the season in the first quarter. Freshman Katharina Balks put VU back on top during the second quarter with her second career goal.
Later in the third, it was Molly Zimmerman who picked up her first goal of the season before it was Adie Minnella who tallied her third of the season and put the score out of reach in the fourth.

🔼 Runnin’ In The Rain. A rain soaked course and highly-touted field of competition couldn’t slow the Villanova men’s cross country team down from earning a third-place finish at the Meadows Challenge on Saturday in Princeton.
The ‘Cats finished only behind #4 Alabama and #9 Syracuse, while also besting the top-two teams in the Mid-Atlantic Region in the race.
Bailey Habler (23:18.6) led the way with a fifth-place finish and was one of four ‘Cats in the top-25, joined by by senior CJ Sullivan in 12th place (23:26.5), junior Thomas McMahon in 21st place (23:34.5) and junior Charlie Moore in 25th place (23:39.3).
