🔼  Stone Cold ‘Cats. Upset alert! The men’s lacrosse team upset No. 9 Yale 13-11 on Saturday! It was far from lacrosse weather as the snow poured down, but that didn’t stop the ‘Cats. Matt Licata led Villanova with four goals, two in each half. Nicholas Lucchesi scored a goal to ice the game and bring the lead to two with seven seconds remaining.

🔼  Party In Paradise. Villanova softball had a successful weekend at the Joan Joyce Classic at Florida Atlantic! After opening the weekend with a loss to Louisville, they finished with three-straight wins over No. 25 FAU, Minnesota and Dartmouth. Freshman pitcher Lexi Kobryn improved to 3-0 this season with a pair of shutout wins. She struck out four batters in each of her starts. Ava Franz hit two home runs throughout the weekend. They’ll play in the Clemson Classic next weekend.

🔼  Island Time. Baseball season began over the weekend as the Wildcats played at the Puerto Rico Challenge. They started the season with a 10-6 win over Rice on Friday night. Brayden Leonard hit his first career home run in the win. On Saturday, they fell to No. 2 Virginia 3-1 despite a strong start from pitcher Luke McCollough. He struck out seven and gave up just one run. They fell to Michigan in the final game of the weekend.

🔼 Cold Never Bothered Us. On a snowy Sunday in Cincinnati, the women’s basketball team took down Xavier 57-42! Jasmine Bascoe and Lara Edmanson scored 15 points each. Edmanson reached 1,000 career points in a career-high scoring effort. They’ll host Georgetown on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

🔼 Home Pool Advantage. The 23rd-ranked Wildcats picked up their fifth-straight win at home on Saturday, beating Siena 16-13. Emily McKenzie recorded nine points in the win, the second most in a single game in program history. She scored a season-high six goals and added three assists.

🔼 Fell Short. The men’s basketball team fell on the road at Providence, 75-62. Three-pointers from the home team made the difference as the Friars went 13-of-27 beyond the arc. Jhamir Brickus reached 1,500 career points, finishing the game with nine. Wooga Poplar and Jordan Longino scored 18 points apiece. They’ll play at UConn tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. on FS1.
