🔼 Marchin’ On. Veteran QB Pat McQuaide couldn’t have picked a better time to throw his milestone 50th career TD pass.
McQuaide’s fourth-quarter TD pass led #12 seeded Villanova to an upset victory over previously unbeaten Lehigh, 14-7, on Saturday afternoon and earn a spot in the FCS Quarterfinals for the third time in the past five seasons.
🔼 The Big 3-0. For the 30th time in program history, the Villanova men’s hoops team took home the top spot in the Big Five, this time, dominating Penn, 90-63, on Saturday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena in the Big 5 Classic title game.
Bryce Lindsay scored 17 of his 18 points in the second half and Duke Brennan recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds to help pace a balanced Villanova attack. Graduate transfer Devin Askew provided a major lift off the bench with 17 points and three assists.
🔼 City Sweepin’. The Villanova women’s team capped off the Big 5 sweep for the Wildcats with a hard-fought 76-70 victory over Saint Joseph’s on Sunday in the Big 5 Classic title game at Finneran Pavilion.
It marked the sixth straight victory for Nova, who was paced by Brynn McCurry, who scored 20+ points for the third straight game, finishing with a team-high 21 points, including a perfect 3-for-3 from long range.
🔼 There Goes That Man Again. With his team needing every win possible, Christian Benford once again delivered for the Buffalo Bills.
For the second straight week, Benford found the endzone from the defensive side of the ball, this time, picking off Joe Burrow and scampering 67-yards for a TD to give the Bills the lead for good late in the fourth quarter on Sunday.
🔼 Mighty Marco. For the second time in as many years, the men’s 5,000 meter record fell for the Villanova men’s track & field squad.
Senior Marco Langon ran to a time of 13:05.21 on Saturday afternoon in the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. It was last year at this meet that Langon and teammate Liam Murphy broke the previous Villanova absolute record in the 5,000 meters which had stood for 45 years. Langon takes over as the Wildcats standard bearer in the event after Saturday's race. His time will rank No. 7 on the all-time collegiate indoor list of top times.
