🔼 20/20 Vision. The record streak is even longer as the 11th-ranked Villanova football team pulled away from a pesky UAlbany squad, 29-16, for a thrilling Homecoming victory at Villanova Stadium.
With the win, the ‘Cats extend their home winning streak to 20, which is a program record. It also gives Villanova its fifth straight win of 2025 to improve to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in league play.
🔼 Opening Act. Villanova fans got a sneak peek of what’s to come this season on the court as the women’s basketball team rolled to a 79-54 exhibition victory over Towson on Friday night.
Preseason All-BIG EAST selection Jasmine Bascoe led the way with a game-high 32 points, connecting on 11-of-19 from the field and 7-of-10 from long range. Freshman guard Brooke Bender was terrific in her first taste of college experience with 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds.
🔼 Second Helpings. A big second half lifted the Villanova field hockey team to a 4-2 BIG EAST victory over Providence on Friday afternoon.
Freshman Erin Mitchell scored two of the ‘Cats three second-half goals as Villanova pulled away from the Friars.
A victory by Villanova in the regular season finale or a loss by Quinnipiac would secure a postseason berth for the ‘Cats.
🔼 Clipping Their Wings. For the first time since 2017, the Villanova volleyball team picked up a win over Marquette, taking down the Golden Eagles in four sets (33-35, 25-19, 25-13, 25-19) on Saturday night.
It was a season high in a pair of categories for the Wildcats, totaling 16 blocks on the night while putting up 15 service aces to blow away the previous season high of nine and record the most single match aces for VU since at least 2014.
Abby Harrell contributed a 16-kill, 13-dig double-double with a match-best five service aces to lead Villanova in all three categories and post a season-high 23 points.
🔼 Connect Four. Graduate student Lizzie Martell paced the Villanova women’s cross country lineup for the second time this season and the Wildcats tallied their fourth team victory of the season with a first place result at the Haverford Invitational on Friday afternoon.
Four different Wildcats posted personal best times for a 5K cross country course and Martell led the way with a second place finish and a time of 17:39.4. The race was won by Villanova sophomore Bella Walsh who was competing unattached at the meet.
