🔼 Cheers To 40 Years. The 1985 NCAA Champion men’s basketball team will be honored on Friday night! This group of Wildcats won Villanova’s first NCAA Championship in men’s basketball when they defeated Georgetown 66-64 on April 1, 1985. The 40th anniversary will be celebrated at halftime of Villanova’s game against Providence at the Wells Fargo Center. The lineup of expected guests includes Ed Pinckney, Dwayne McClain, Gary McClain, Harold Pressley, Harold Jensen and members of the family of late coach Rollie Massimino.
🔼 Stormy Night. After a late Red Storm surge, the men’s basketball team fell to St. John’s 80-68 on Saturday. The Wildcats were down by just one point with three minutes left, but St. John’s turned on the jets. Wooga Poplar led the Wildcats with 20 points in front of a sold-out Madison Square Garden. He also reached 1,000 career points when he made his second three-pointer of the night. Eric Dixon scored 18 points with four three’s.
🔜 The Wildcats will travel to Cincinnati for a road game at Xavier tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. Fans can tune in on FS1.
🔼 Road Woes. The women’s basketball team also fell on the road on Saturday. Marquette’s second-half surge downed the Wildcats 64-59. Villanova entered halftime with a nine-point lead, but the Golden Eagles went on a 21-9 run in the third quarter. Maddie Webber led the ‘Cats with 16 points plus six rebounds. Maddie Burke was behind her with 10 points.
🔜 They return home to host DePaul on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.
